Percy Tau’s R53m Brighton Transfer

Barcelona Sign Brazilian Youngster

Percy Tau has completed his much-awaited move to the English Premier League with Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Seagulls revealed the news on their website, while explaining that the 24-year-old South Africa international striker will be sent out on loan to gain European experience.

A former Witbank Spurs attacker, Tau was named the Premiership’s player of the season after a sensational season with Sundowns, who he helped to another league title.

A statement from Brighton’s official website read: “Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of South African international Percy Tau, on undisclosed terms.

“The 24-year-old striker has agreed a four-year deal and will be loaned out ahead of the new season.”

Brighton manager Chris Hughton added: “Percy is a player we have highlighted for the future, and there is no doubting his talent, having been voted South African player of the season.

“Percy will go out on loan this season, play regularly and get some experience of European football.

“We will be watching his progress and monitoring his development over the season.”

Tau, meanwhile, thanked Sundowns for all the good times he experienced at the club, following the switch when he posted on Twitter: “I would like to thank the Mamelodi Sundowns family, the president, the board, management, staff, supporters and the players for the incredible memories and experiences which we shared throughout my time at Sundowns. Thank you! Ka Bo Yellow!”

Downs responded with a statement of their own: “Keep roaring young lion. We see you, ibhubesi. Hamba Kahle!”
